Hindutva Teach-In: Educate,
Resist, and Act

The “Hindutva in North America” teach-in series by Justice For All explores the growing influence of Hindutva—a Hindu nationalist ideology—in the U.S. and Canada. The sessions examine how this ideology has permeated politics, education, and workplaces, often leading to discrimination against marginalized communities. Experts discuss the manipulation of historical narratives in schools, as seen in controversies over textbook content in California, and the rise of caste-based and religious biases in academic institutions. The series also highlights the political strategies employed by Hindutva proponents to gain influence in North American policymaking. By shedding light on these issues, the teach-in aims to foster awareness and encourage resistance against the spread of extremist ideologies

Why This Matters:

The rise of Hindutva—a political ideology advocating Hindu supremacy—poses a significant threat to democratic values and human rights, both in India and internationally. Justice For All’s Hindutva Teach-In series highlights how this ideology, rooted in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and promoted by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is gaining influence in North America. Through political lobbying, educational content, and workplace practices, Hindutva is being legitimized abroad, creating a culture of impunity and echoing patterns seen in other fascist regimes. This transnational spread affects minority communities, distorts historical narratives, and undermines secular institutions. Awareness and proactive engagement are crucial to countering this ideology and upholding the principles of pluralism and justice.
